Romelia “Meme” Turner is presently a student at San Diego City College. A native of Southeast San Diego, Meme is very active in her community with organizations such as Pillars of the Community, and proudly serves Greater Life Baptist Church as an usher and participant in the women’s ministry. After a long career in the beauty industry and conquering breast cancer in 2009, Meme returned to school to achieve her High School Diploma through San Diego Continuing Education. It was there that Meme’s desire for higher education was born. Meme transitioned to San Diego City College where she joined the Umoja Community Program. Meme served the Umoja Club as President during the 2016-2017 academic year. Meme continues to remain highly engaged at San Diego City College where she serves as an Umoja Peer Leader, Black History Month Committee Chair, and member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Meme has been employed by San Diego City College as a Peer Mentor with First Year Services and as an assistant in the English department.

Meme recently earned her Certificate of Achievement as a Mental Health Worker from San Diego City College. Meme is working on her Associate Degree for Transfer in Psychology, as well as her Associate of Arts in Black Studies. As Meme nears graduation, she maintains a 3.7 transferable GPA.
